Soil Testing, Plant, Disease and Insect Diagnosis

Soil Testing

What You Get:

°   Analysis of the current nutrient content
     of your soil
°   Current soil pH
°   Recommendation of the type and amount
    of fertilizer to add

What We Need:

°   2 Cups of air dry soil
°   Sample should contain soil from the surface to
     6 inches deep
°   Take soil from 3 to 4 places in area to be
     tested
     mix together and submit 2 cups of this
     mixture in a clean plastic bag

When to Sample:

°   Can be done anytime the soil is not frozen
°   Best done before you apply fertilizer

Plant Identification

Cost $ 4.00
You will receive a reply within 7 days

What You Get:

°   Name of the plant
°   If it's a weed, what potential problems it
    might cause
°   If it's necessary to control it
°   If so, the most environmentally safe
    method of effective control

What We Need:

°   If possible, submit the entire plant (especially
    weeds), the roots may be important for
    identification
°   For trees and shrubs - a small stem with
     leaves attached
°   Any flowers or fruit are also helpful in
    identification
°   Submit sample in plastic bag, do not add
    water
°   Wrap turf in foil, do not add water
°   Location where it was found

Disease Identification

You will receive a reply within 7 days
Any lab fees may be additional

What You Get:

°   Name of the plant disease
°   Determination of if the disease is serious
    enough to warrant control
°   If so, the most environmentally safe
    method of control 

 

What We Need:

°   Sample of the diseased plant
°   For small plants, the entire plant, including
    roots if possible
°   For larger plants (trees, shrubs) submit the
    plant parts that are showing disease
°   If possible submit the "transition zone", some
    healthy and some diseased tissue
°   Place in a plastic bag, do not add water
°   Wrap turf in foil, do not add water

Insect Identification

What You Get:

°   Name of the insect
°   A description of the potential damage it
    might do
°   Determination of if the insect is a
    potential problem
°   Recommendation if the insect needs to 
    be "controlled"
°   The most environmentally safe yet 
    effective method of control will be 
    recommended

What We Need:

°   Insect specimen, preferably alive
°   Bring in a small jar or plastic container so that
    the insect doesn't get squashed
°   Location where found
