How to restore your shoreline

Task 5 - Choosing plants for Northern Wisconsin
Dry Mesic to Mesic Forest Sites Plant List

A combination of sand and loam soils and medium moisture conditions characterize this type of site. This page contains lists of plants native to northern Wisconsin and suitable for the upland dry mesic to mesic forest areas. Many species from the dry to dry mesic list and mesic to wet mesic list may also grow well at your site, depending on whether specific conditions at your site are leaning towards the drier conditions, or towards the moister conditions. If you choose to add species from the mesic to wet mesic list, you may have to provide additional water and shade in order for these species to flourish.

Some of the plants in this list are linked to the Wisconsin State Herbarium website where you can get detailed information on these  plants.  Just click on the plant name to be taken to the herbarium site.
