How to restore your shoreline

Planting - Maintaining and nurturing your plantings

Watering recent plantings is necessary, with the amount depending upon local weather conditions. Your source for plants and seeds can offer guidelines for you to follow.  Removing invasive or non-native plant material may be necessary early in the process of restoration, but should diminish as native plants establish themselves and predominate.

Remember that restoration is not a one-day activity; it is a process.  You may have to begin with species that are tolerant of full-sun conditions, knowing that they will die out and be replaced by shade-tolerant species (either naturally, as the trees and shrubs grow, or with your help).  Many beautiful native wildflowers will eventually replace your turf, provided that you are patient!
