Spam Filtering – Instructions for Eudora

Creating the Mailbox

In the mailboxes window, right-click on the Eudora folder and select NEW.

In the NEW MAIL dialog box, type "Junk Mail."

Click OK.

Making the Filter

From the Eudora TOOLS menu, select FILTERS. The Filters dialog box will open.

Press the NEW button in the lower left corner of the dialog box to create a new filter.

Make sure the INCOMING checkbox is checked (this is the default).

From the HEADER pull-down menu, select "<<Any Header>>."

Next to the CONTAINS pull-down menu, type in "This message may contain unsolicited Email."

In the ACTION section, select "Transfer To" from the first pull-down menu.

Click the long button labeled "In" (this button is to the right of the "Transfer to" field). A pop-up menu will appear.

Select the "Junk Mail" box that you created.

The filters dialog box should look like this:

Click the CLOSE button in the upper right corner.

You will be asked if you want to save changes to filters. Click YES.

This should filter out some of the spam mail you have been receiving. The filter will transfer the spam out of your Inbox and into the Junk Mail folder.

NOTE: Be sure to check the Junk Mail mailbox from time to time to make sure no legitimate mail was accidentally transferred to it.
