Spam Filtering -- Instructions for Outlook

Launch Outlook.

From the Outlook Shortcuts bar, select OUTLOOK TODAY.


Right-click on the PERSONAL FOLDERS-OUTLOOK TODAY pull-down menu and select NEW FOLDER.


In the Create New Folder dialog box, type, create a new folder named "Junk Mail."




The folder should contain "Mail and Post Items," and the folder should be placed in the Personal Folders file.

Click OK.

Outlook will ask if you want a shortcut to the new folder added to your Outlook Bar. Click YES if you want a shortcut placed on your Outlook Bar; click NO if you do not.


From Outlook’s TOOLS menu, select RULES WIZARD.


Click NEW.


Select START FROM A BLANK RULE and CHECK MESSAGES WHEN THEY ARRIVE.


Click NEXT.

Scroll down and add a checkmark next to WITH SPECIFIC WORDS IN THE MESSAGE HEADER.


In the Rule Description box, click "specific words." The SEARCH TEXT dialog box will open.

In the first box, type "This message may contain unsolicited Email." (You do not need to type in the quotation marks around this text.)


Click the ADD button to add the text to the Search list.


Click OK.

Click NEXT.

In the RULES WIZARD dialog box, add a checkmark next to "Move it to the specified folder."


In the Rule Description box, click "specified."



In the dialog box that opens, scroll down and select the JUNK MAIL folder that you created.


Click OK.

Click the FINISH button.


Click OK.
