Step 1. Get ready to hire

You know you have an opening because someone just resigned. Don't panic, but do move quickly! The University requires that positions be posted for 30 days. Add interviewing time and it could be 2-3 months before you have a new employee on board.

You need to wait for your soon-to-be-former-employee's letter of resignation to officially post the position, but you can start the ball rolling as soon as you have verbal notice.

In order to complete Step 1 you need to complete each of the items below. Follow these links to detailed information for each item:

• Discuss the vacancy with your District Director, State Coordinator and local colleagues
• Review EEO and AA policy
• Review the position description
• Develop a recruitment plan
• Select the interview team
