Building an online community as the heart of the BBC's training and professional development
|Presenter||Prof. Nigel Paine, BBC People Development|
|Abstract||The aim of the BBC is to become the most creative organization in the world, while entertaining, educating, and informing its audience. With 27,000 staff it is one of the biggest media organizations in the world and offers eight television and 53 radio stations, which are all free to air and carry no advertising. This presentation will show the way in which the BBC has put online learning at the heart of its training and development operation. Having redesigned the company intranet, Gateway, a learning site was created which brings together online courses, debate, discussion, and personal development planning. The environment is flexible and easy to use and continually tries to capture and share the expert knowledge of its users while remaining accessible for all.|
