ABOUT SYMPOSIA
Symposia allow 2-3 colleagues to present on different aspects of a current topic of interest to professionals in higher education, K-12, business, military, medicine, or other distance education settings. Symposia are 3-hour sessions, allowing time to delve into a topic and provide interactive participant activities.
Sample topics for symposia may include:
- Current issue that is relevant to a variety of distance education/training settings
- Research review in an area of distance education/training and implications for future research
- Successful adaptation of a pedagogy or technology to multiple distance education/training settings
- Administrative challenges and solutions in distance education/training settings
- Proven techniques for evaluating and improving distance instruction/training, learning, and/or programs.
Suggested symposium activities include: panel discussion of current challenges and solutions; breakout activities to generate questions for the speakers; presentation of exemplary practices crossing multiple fields; application of models presented through individual or group/team projects; provide topic resources and support materials; and/or guide individuals or groups in developing follow-up action plans.
SPECIAL NOTE: Symposia lead presenters are required to submit a 5-7 page White Paper by September 4, 2010. The White Paper will summarize the topic and content presented by each symposium member; present results of participant interactions such as questions raised and work generated by participants during the session; and include original and follow-up resources for readers.

Acceptance Requirements
- If your proposal is selected for presentation and you accept, you are committing to attend the conference. Accepted symposia receive up to three waived registrations.
- Presenters must register by June 4, 2010.
- Presenters MUST provide their own computers. The conference will provide a standard presentation set-up including projector, screen, audio, Internet connection, podium, and presenter's table.
- If your proposal is accepted for presentation, you arerequiredto submit5-7 page White Paperby September 4, 2010. Symposia papers will be published on the Conference Web site.
- Resources (handouts, slides, etc.) from your symposia may be submitted by June 4, 2010 to be included in the Resource Library on the conference Web site.
