Media Center Sessions
Thursday, August 5: 10:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Friday, August 6: 8:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m.
New to the conference this year is a Media Center to demonstrate practical skills for using Internet/Web technologies. Featured are eight presentation sessions that show you skill-building tips and techniques for Web site development. The sessions are organized by the Division of Information Technology, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
This session is for non-technical people who want to understand basic fundamentals of
streaming audio and video material on the web. Topics include: how streaming works,
instructional applications, selecting suitable content, and tips for getting started.
Want to assure that all Internet users can get to the information at your website? During this
session we'll introduce you to issues about and resources for designing accessible web pages
using Netscape Composer. No previous HTML or web editing experience is necessary.
Integrating images into a web site is now a common task. If done incorrectly, however, it can
severely affect the performance of your site. Learn how to scan and size graphics for optimal
performance and how to create advanced graphics, like image maps, quickly and easily.
No longer must you keep those nifty lecture slides to yourself. Learn how to convert your
Microsoft PowerPoint or Corel Presentations slide shows quickly to web pages for your
students.

convert it into a slide show for streaming over the web. This session will look at characteristics
of an effective web slide show as well as tips and techniques for getting the best results.
Have you tried to demo a website and not been able to connect because the server is busy or
down? Did you know you may be able to download a copy of your favorite website and write
it to CD-ROM. A perfect back-up, just in case.
Are you looking at ways to elicit and obtain more continuous feedback from your students on
your course web page? Learn about the various tools you can use to communicate and share
feedback with your students on the Web.
