NETNEWS
Michele Jacques
Distance Education Clearinghouse on the web at:
http://www.uwex.edu/disted/home.html
or gopher to the server: gopher.uwex.edu for text-only version of the Clearinghouse
New information and links to additional resources are added on a daily basis to the University of Wisconsin-Extension's Distance Education Clearinghouse.
Our newest section is the official information for the 12th Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning which will be held in Madison on August 7-9, 1996. Chris Olgren, Program Manager, has designed the original pages. The conference information will be updated as it becomes available. You can find the link to the Conference information on the Clearinghouse's homepage.
The information for the Quality Distance Education (QDE): Lessons Learned program has also been updated. You will now find new information about QDE, as well as a section which provides dozens of links to Distance Education programs from around the world. These programs all focus on the experience of creating quality distance education efforts.
Compressed Video is another newly enhanced section of the Clearinghouse. In fact, in line with the recent special focus area of DESIEN, please check out this section at:
http://www.uwex.edu/disted/compvid.html or on the gopher, select "Interactive Delivery Systems" from the main menu. In the Compressed Video section, you will find glossaries, definitions, articles and other sources on Compressed Video, both from Wisconsin and beyond. Of interest to Wisconsin users is the new document: Publicly Accessible Wisconsin Compressed Video Conference Facilities. This document was updated on November 3 and identifies the 28 locations of the Compressed Video sites, including such information as the room number and maximum group size requirements, hours of availability, parking information and other details. The sites information can be found directly at the web address:
http://www.uwex.edu/disted/compvidsites.html
It is one of the goals of the Distance Education Clearinghouse to be a useful and vital resource for the distance education needs, a place where you can find answers to questions, links to other distance education sites, programs, organizations and courses. There is an alphabetical and outlined index to help you find your way around the web version; there are search functions on the
gopher for the same reason. In the weeks ahead we'll be adding the archives of the DESIEN-List to the Clearinghouse, along with many other features. Please be sure to send your comments, suggestions, and questions about the Clearinghouse to me. I can be reached at: jacques@ics.uwex.edu or by phone at (608) 265-6178. Thanks.
