Subject: Re: Desktop Video Purchasing Recommendation

We have ordered two PicTel PCS 50 units for UWM. They will be used for 6 months on an architecture project and then will revert to my department for campus use. They are H.320 compatible and will work with our larger PicTel units.

The DVD, Digital Video Disk, has finally become a worldwide standard. No VHS vs Beta battle here. Early indications are that the price will be about $500 bucks. The units will primarily be used by the movie people to distribute 2+ hour movies (MPEG 2) to consumers. Since the disks are digital, game producers are drooling over the gigs of storage for their game files.

Copyright Law as it applies to Distance Education is going to be a big topic in the not to distant future. I recommend the following WWW site to help you and your college(s) better understand what the current laws are.
