Re: Special Request for UTIC Proposals for Technology Conference Follow-up Grants

Response Due: January 24, 1997

UTIC is pleased to announce that it has set aside 1996-97 grant funds to support a second special series of grants following up on it's spring conference, "Virtually There: Teaching, Learning and Technology for the 21st Century".

The grants will be awarded for the Spring semester of fiscal year 1996-97, and are intended to fund development and implementation of workshops, mini-conferences, seminars, campus team activities or similar projects aimed at helping to advance discussion and work on teaching, learning and technology. Regional or statewide meetings of faculty or staff in a particular discipline or related disciplines are especially encouraged.

UTIC suggests the following foci:

• Campus, regional or systemwide workshops conferences or meetings on particular issues/aspects of teaching, learning and technology;

• Department-or discipline-based projects that model the implementation of instructional technologies that enhance learning and curricula;

• Projects that aid institutions in developing broad strategies to formulate the role of technology in teaching and learning on their campus;

• Development by faculty and teaching academic staff of workshops on particular issues and topics related to teaching, learning and technology for which replacement costs for one course will be funded. Grant recipients must be subsequently available to lead the workshop on their own campus, another campus or at a systemwide event.

Funded activities may be campus-based, regional or systemwide and should be designed for a broad group of faculty/staff participants or for targeted groups, such as department chairs, faculty/staff with professional development responsibilities, or faculty/staff in a particular discipline or group of related disciplines. This funding is "not" intended for projects that primarily benefit an individual proposar.

Proposals may request up to $1,500 for campus-based activities and up to $2,000 for regional or systemwide activities; proposals requesting faculty/staff release time should request the cost of replacing grant recipients for one course for one semester. Collaboration with other UW System institutions is encouraged. Grant funds may be used to support such expenses as travel and honoraria for guest speakers, materials and meals.

For further information/guidelines contact Donna Silver, UTIC Program Coordinator at 608-262-4337 or e-mail dsilver@ccmail.uwsa.edu

Proposals should be submitted to the Undergraduate Teaching Improvement Council, 1668 Van Hise Hall, 1220 Linden Drive, Madison, WI 53706 by January 24, 1997
