FIRSTGOV PORTAL - A government portal, FirstGov, that connects all of the government's online resources, launched last month. The site will provide access to over 27 million government Web pages. Focusing initially on providing information, FirstGov is expected to eventually enable transactions between citizens and agencies. The founder of Inktomi, Eric Brewer, led the Federal Search Foundation (FSF) in developing the search engine for FirstGov. The FSF will manage FirstGov for the next two years, after which the government will then run the portal or outsource the task. (Government Computer News, 2 Oct 00)
