We end 2001's last issue of DESIEN with an important FOCUS article on business uses of distance education and knowledge management. Although written from a business perspective, the topic is equally critical for education, government and the non- profit sector. According to author Alan Chute of Advanced Learning Systems, "the challenge for educational and training organizations is to develop the tools for managing the knowledge resources and providing appropriate access to this information." This is, indeed a challenge. Alan cites an innovative solution in the Case Study in this month's Focus section. (Rosemary Lehman)
