I began this issue with the prediction that the next five years will be extremely important ones for the field of Instructional Design. I'd like to end this month's issue with a tribute to a real pioneer in this field - Robert Gagne. Born in 1916, Gagne was the co-developer of "Instructional Systems Design" and wrote The Conditions of Learning. He was a seminal thinker in the development of instructional theory and influenced
a whole generation of designers and trainers. His influence has carried over into instructional design for distance learning. For a bio of Gagne, including a summary of his key theories see:
