Treasurer: no report.
Discussion with Ed Meachen about working group to examine transition to new distance education technologies. Where are we now? Who are our principal partners and where are we and they going? Other possible participants: WHA-TV, ECB, WTCS, DPI, WADEN. See memo entitled "Working Group to examine Distance Education Technologies" at www.uwex.edu/disted/emtc/dework.htm.
Report to Ed Meachen by July 1, 2000. Ed will share with other UW System offices.
Pete Nordgren moved approval of minutes of April 12-13, 1999. Second by Jim Jorstad. Minutes approved by voice vote.
Chairman Hagaman revised the agenda.
Chairman Hagaman established several committees:
Distance Ed Technology: (Meachen's committee) (UW-Extension member outside of EMTC group)Jim Jorstad, John Grozik and Bob Fuller. Joe Hagaman will forward three names to Ed Meachen.
Classroom support: Members to be chosen.

Bob Jokisch, UW-System, and John Nierengarten, UW-River Falls, joined meeting after 2:45pm break.
Campus Updates
Kate Pietri, UW-Parkside--media area reorganized again.
Bob Fuller, UW-Eau Claire--classroom remodeling will have 14 similarly equipped classrooms and four major lecture halls; interested in streaming media.
Jim Jorstad, UW La Crosse--new CIO Kathy Lang; classroom modeling/design; produced first DVD; installing 11 custom educational media technology consoles.
Charles Cottle, UW-Whitewater--$1,750,000 Department of Education instructional technology, five-year grant for faculty development; renovation of three major lecture halls.
Denny Gilbertson, UW-Extension--Pyle Center building contract almost complete; using PeopleSoft billing software; working with H.323; waiting for new video MCU; looking at ETN technology.
Mark Vladick, UW-Colleges--UW-Baraboo remodeling 16 classrooms. Eight compressed video classes this semester; some campuses have two compressed video rooms and others are thinking of adding a third. ATM video next semester.
John Grozik, UW-Milwaukee--1.5 support positions open. Two groups on campus doing distance education; one group working with e-college, the other group is using Web Course in a Box and Blackboard.
Ron Weseloh, UW-Stevens Point--13 classroom projects; purchased new video routing switcher; looking at DVD authoring package; producing Environmental Education telecourse with on-line component; just finished a Biodiversity telecourse; working on medtech multimedia modules; new director of Credit Outreach; looking at three software scheduling packages.
Pete Nordgren, UW-Superior--Media Resources and campus network group will be merged; a new director will be hired for this new group; bought a slide scanner; will adopt Voyager media booking.
Steve Siehr, UW-Madison-- Peg Geisler is retiring this fall; new CIO
search down to three candidates;
Chancellor's Instructional Technology Initiative-three major projects,
two years, about $1 million; Biology, Geographic Information Systems certificate
via distance education, foreign language; new Master's in Engineering
in Professional Practice on-line $1,000/credit, 24 student cohort, two
years to complete; cable modem @Home operational and ADSL trial just starting
in Madison area.
John Nierengarten ,UW-River Falls--remodeling classrooms; new Teacher Education building; TV services moving to digital environment; campus will be building a Dairy Science building away from campus.
Joe Hagaman, UW-Stout--new communications center is on schedule move in next fall; checkout webcam http://www.lts.uwstout.edu/cc2k-live222a.html; remodeling 15 classrooms; reorganization in progress; Continuing Education, Research Promotion Services and Learning Technology Services will merge; new web development unit is operational; faculty development web camp for one week last summer was very successful; will have winter web camp in January, another at end of Spring 2000 semester and one in August 2000,

Next Meeting: EMTC will meet in Madison on January 27 and 28, 2000, at The Pyle Center, Madison. Five hotel rooms are being held at Lowell Hall. There are also a few rooms at the Memorial Union.
