ABSTRACT
For almost a decade, Professor Joan Karlen of the Theatre and Dance faculty at UW-Stevens Point has been intrigued by the rich possibilities of combining dance and technology. This effective practice describes how her technological experimentation began and how it culminated in the development of her interactive CD ROM. (This article was previously published in Teaching With Technology Today (TTT), Tammy Kempfert editor, June, 2000, and is included in this publication with TTT's permission. Currently Joan is developing a new multimedia, ZOOM IN, LOOK OUT with Buenos Aires, Argentina collaborators Margarita Bali, Jorge Sad, and Francisco Colasanto. This project explores and defines ways that interactive technologies can be designed in time and space to reveal a dramatic narrative, in this case, the unfolding of a female character's personality. The project will result in a number of live performances, along with the consideration of ways these live performances might also be shared with others through distance education technologies.
