At a "drive-by" glance, many farms may not look that different from each other - but
their environmental focus and impacts can be very different. This website was created
to share the results of a North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and
Education funded project comparing the sustainability of several farm environmental programs.
We learned that successful certification, permitting and environmental management
programs for farmers will:
- Increase the ability of farmers to be good decision-makers
- Include the human dimension, for example, worker participation and welfare.
- Help farmers both serve and take advantage of their community
- Recognize the value of specific measures to manage soil, water, energy, animal welfare, and biodiversity
- Support continual improvement
