This EPA site includes many links to regional and state programs, funding and legal information, and water quality data.

EPA WATERS: Watershed Assessment, Tracking & Environmental Results
WATERS is a tool that unites water quality information previously available only on individual state agency homepages and at several Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) websites. State and federal water quality managers, as well as interested citizens, can use WATERS to quickly identify the status of individual waterbodies of interest to them. It can also be used to generate summary reports on all waters of a state.

Water Quality Information Center (USDA) - information on water resources as related to agriculture. Includes a database of online documents covering water and agriculture, a portal to dozens of water-related databases and bibliographies.

Monitoring

CSREES Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring National Facilitation Project Purpose: Build a comprehensive support system for Extension volunteer water quality monitoring efforts across the country.

EPA Monitoring Water Quality
EPA's monitoring program includes a National Volunteer Monitoring Program. Their web site includes factsheets, a newsletter, methods manuals for lake, stream and estuary monitoring, and information about how to get involved in the program.

USGS National Water Quality Monitoring Council.
Purpose: Provide national coordination to implement the Strategy to Improve Water-Quality Monitoring in the United States. Develop water-quality information standards through the Methods and Data Comparability Board.

The Student Watershed Research Project in Oregon includes quality-assured watershed monitoring activities, workshops, a newsletter and a manual of field and lab procedures.

The Water Action Volunteers in Wisconsin maintain an online Citizen Stream Monitoring database and facilitate a state-wide volunteer monitoring program.

The Puget Sound Ambient Monitoring Program (PSAMP) brings together local, state, and federal agencies-coordinated by the Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team-to assess trends in environmental quality in the Sound…PSAMP includes studies on marine and fresh waters, fish, sediments, shellfish, nearshore habitat, marine bird populations, and marine bird contamination.

National Events

Other

Center for Ecological Pollution Prevention (CEPP) develops, promotes and demonstrates better waste management systems and practices, with an emphasis on source-separation and utilization approaches. Includes publications, public education programs, workshops, demonstration projects, and conservation tools.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension Water Quality Program The Water Quality team at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension (UMCE) provides information to the public on protecting Maine's water resources. We focus on lake and watershed issues, and work with agricultural producers to implement best management practices (BMPs) on their farms. Through applied research we provide growers with information on efficient nutrient and weed management practices. Participants in our water quality educational programs are making a difference in Maine.

The Missouri River Basin Consortium (MRBC) is a consortium of institutions of higher learning that develops and coordinates basin-wide interdisciplinary research, education and outreach programs relevant to the needs of citizens, agencies and organizations within the basin. Our goal is to advance knowledge and understanding of the unique ecological, economic, historical, social, political and cultural issues shaping the environmental and economic future of the Missouri River Basin.
