Webconferencing

Woman Participating in a Web ConferenceWebconferencing is synchronous (real-time) communication between two or more parties at a distance, using the World Wide Web (WWW). This communication can also include the use of voice communication and video communication. A webconference can have as few as two people, or can number in the thousands.

Webconferencing is increasingly popular for many reasons. It can be accessed on most computers that have Internet capability and is inexpensive compared to many other distance technologies. There are many webconferencing systems to choose from. Currently you can find over 100 webconferencing products and service providers available to potential users.

In some products, there are features that increase the effectiveness and flexibility of a webconference.

Some of these features are —

  • file sharing
  • instant meetings
  • private text chat
  • the ability to ask text questions
  • interactive polling
  • annotation tools
  • whiteboards
  • text slides
  • application sharing
