Steeped in Learning: Afternoon Tea with the Center on Education and Work

Afternoon Tea LogoThe University of Wisconsin-Madison Center on Education and Work is hosting “Afternoon Teas” at The Pyle Center during the 2008-2009 academic year. The tea conversations are open dialogues – like discussing things over tea with one’s friends or colleagues – not formal presentations. Their purpose is “to provide a forum for learning about contemporary career and workforce development issues” from nationally-known scholars.

The first Afternoon Tea in November of 2008 featured Dr. Steven Brown of Loyola University engaging in a dialogue: Toward a Taxonomy of Career Decision-Making Difficulties. The second, in March of 2009, featured Dr. Mark Savickas of Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy: Mark Savickas Unplugged.

The third session, Innovations in Career Interest Assessments, was held on April 29, 2009, and led by Dr. Terence Tracey of Arizona State University.

And the final Afternoon Tea for this four-part series will be, The World of On-line Career Information Systems, Thursday, May 7th, 2009, 3-4 p.m. CST. The discussion will be led by Dr. James Sampson, Florida State University.

Anyone interested may attend. There is no cost either to participate in person or to watch. Each Afternoon Tea presentation is streamed live to a worldwide audience, then archived for later viewing on the web.

The role of ICS is to help bring the Afternoon Teas to people unable to attend in person at The Pyle Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Four cameras are used to capture the conversations of two engaged scholars as well as the audience. Besides capturing the video using the ICS’ new Tricaster equipment and doing the camera work, lighting, and staging, ICS assists with the video capture, streaming, and recording.

Tricaster allows for the capture of video in a streaming format with multiple cameras enabling high-quality post-production editing.

To register, simply RSVP to CEW.afternoontea@education.wisc.edu one week prior to the even date with your name, where you are from, and any question you might like to ask of the presenter. Then, just arrive in-person or log-in via webcast by 2:45 p.m. CST on the day of the event.
