APPROPRIATE USE POLICY OF ELECTRONIC MAIL:
The spirit of the e-mail usage policy is simple. You may not
communicate through e-mail anything that you cannont communicate
through other media
Lists configured under a list server and accessed via e-mail
not provided as a medium for free expression unrelated to the
mission and scope of the specific list.
E-mail Internet etiquette (netiquette) is expected. Do not send
abusive, harassing or bigoted messages. While messages of this
type are hard to define at times; exercise good judgment and
consider the perspective of others.
Wiscnet is the Internet Service Provider for the University
of Wisconsin-Extension and its Madison-based server, uwex.edu.
We ask that you abide by the following policy:
WiscNet Acceptable Use Policy, September 6, 1994
WiscNet's purpose is to advance education, research, economic
development and public service by enabling the exchange of
information among its constituencies. In general it supports
the education, research, public service and economic development
missions of its members and clients.
1. Use that is consistent with the purposes of WiscNet is
acceptable
2. Use directly supporting approved uses is acceptable,
for example:
education
research
state, local or national government affairs
economic development
public service
3. Communications that violate Wisconsin, federal or
international laws are unacceptable.
4. Activities designed to interfere with the ability of other
users to make effective use of the network are unacceptable
5. Using the network in a harmful or harassing manner is
unnacceptable.
The above statments of policy are not meant to be exhaustive.
The WiscNet Board of Directors is the final authority on
questions of acceptable use of the network. Until an issue is
resolved, questionable use should be considered unacceptable.
WiscNet members and clients are responsible for seeing that their
communities are aware of and follow this policy in letter and in
spirit
Caution: While WiscNet is an effective network for its purposes,
it is not and should not be considered a secure network and
should not be relied upon for transmitting confidential or
sensitive information.
