UW Extension Conference Centers is seeking applicants for Hotel Custodian positions. These positions will be either Temporary Staff positions or Student Help positions, depending upon the applicant. Both classifications do not come with benefits or paid leave.
Responsibilities of a hotel housekeeper with the objective of maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards of the guestrooms. This position is responsible a first contact person with our customers and requires excellent customer service abilities. The position works under the supervision of a Custodial Services Supervisor.
Hours of work: Schedule varies per week depending upon availability and business offering 2-5 shifts per week. Standard shift is 8am – 3pm.
Goals and Worker Activities
1. 85% Maintaining Guestrooms
a. Make beds and change bed linens
b. Clean bathroom floors
c. Clean sinks, shower stalls, bathroom fixtures, and any additional bathroom fixtures
d. Clean toilets
e. Move and clean furniture
f. Vacuum carpets
g. Empty wastebaskets, remove trash, and clean room fixtures
h. Dust all flat surfaces
i. Wash walls, windows and ceilings
j. Restock bathroom and guestroom amenities
k. Report any damages to room including malfunctioning fixtures or appliances, damages to walls or furniture, theft and needed repairs
l. Change light bulbs
m. Setup rollaway beds for requested rooms
n. Transport loads of clean and dirty laundry
o. Wash, dry and fold linens
p. Stock housekeeping carts and closets with supplies
q. Cleaning hotel hallways and removing trash
r. Perform related work as required or directed
2. 10% Maintaining Classrooms and Common areas
a. Setup furniture for specific functions, assisting technical staff in the setup of room
b. Change setups and clean rooms as necessary
c. Provide and replace water coolers as necessary
d. Collect trash and recyclables from classrooms, restrooms, exterior areas and public areas of the building, washing cans as necessary
e. Sweep and damp mop stairwells
f. Clean dry erase boards and replace markers and erasers
g. Vacuum carpeted areas
h. Close windows and doors
i. Lock and unlock doors as scheduled or directed
j. Clean drinking fountains
k. Operate extractor to clean carpet as directed
l. Clean entrance mats
m. Sweep debris from entrance and parking lot areas
n. Remove snow as required
o. Salt or sand icy areas
p. Lift 50 pounds repeatedly, including emptying receptacles, buckets, moving furniture, etc.
q. Perform related work as required or directed
3. 5% Reporting on Status of Guest Rooms
a. Generate computer reports for the cleaning of rooms
b. Provide information required in completing housekeeping report
c. Report discrepancies in room occupancy
d. Report security problems
e. Report maintenance problems
f. Return all reports to supervisor
• Be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly and more with help.
• Be able to climb and work on a ladder.
• Have strength and stamina to perform required work including stooping, kneeling, moving furniture, and working on feet for long periods of time.
• Prior experience in setup for conference centers
• Prior experience in general cleaning duties
• Prior experience mixing and using chemicals in a safe manner
• Prior experience working collaboratively with other people
Starting pay is $9.50/hr.
