University of Wisconsin-Extension Chancellor Kevin P. Reilly announced that Marv Van Kekerix has been selected as that institution's new Provost and Vice Chancellor.

As chief academic and operating officer, Van Kekerix will lead academic and program planning for UW-Extension, and oversee administrative support areas including Human Resources and Information Systems. Van Kekerix was named Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor in July following Reilly's promotion from that position to Chancellor.

"We are fortunate to have someone with Marv's qualifications in this key position," said Reilly. "His considerable academic experience and top-notch leadership skills will not only help UW-Extension fulfill its educational mission, but will also enable us to address some significant challenges and opportunities in coming years."

During the interim appointment, Van Kekerix has been on leave from his position as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Extension at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he has served since September 1993. In that position, he was responsible for Credit Outreach, Outreach Education, and University Telecommunications and Distance Learning Resources. Pending approval by the UW Board of Regents, Van Kekerix's permanent appointment will take effect November 1.

Van Kekerix previously served as Director of Academic Telecommunications and Professional Development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and has been involved in distance education since 1973. He received his Ph.D. in Community and Human Resources from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1986. He completed both his M.A. in History and B.S. in Mathematics Education at the University of South Dakota.
