Nomination And Selection
We are now soliciting nominations for the UW-Extension recipient of the UW System Women of Color Award. The University of Wisconsin System Women's Studies Consortium and the Office of Multicultural Affairs has announced the 6th Annual Women of Color Award Ceremony and Reception to honor women from UW System campuses and communities. This year's conference, "History in the Making: Celebrating 25 Years of Women's Studies Scholarship and Activism?" will be held at UW-Madison, October 27-28, 2000.
Please nominate a woman of color from the community or your division who has made outstanding contributions to the University of Wisconsin community. Employees who are women of color may also nominate themselves. Nominations must be submitted and received by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Programs no later than February 28, 2000.
Nominees may be from the following categories, but only one nominee will be selected to represent UW-Extension: UW Faculty, staff, student or community member who has made such contributions. Please factor in the conference theme of "...Women's Studies Scholarship and Activism" in selecting nominees.
This year, honorees will be invited to attend the entire conference. The formal recognition ceremony will occur on Saturday, during the conference. The Office of Academic Affairs will cover their conference registration fee, lodging and meal costs. The Conference Planning Committee will communicate with honorees about the details of the ceremony, reception and conference.
Selection Process:
- Vice Chancellor Kevin Reilly in consultation with Vicki Washington, Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Programs and Kay Taube, Women's Studies Administrator will select one woman of color from UW-Extension who has made outstanding contributions to the UW in the areas of diversity and women's studies scholarship and activism.
- Potential Nominee may be one of the following: UW Faculty or Staff, UW Student, or active community member
- The Chancellor's Office will notify the selected honoree. The Conference Planning Committee will communicate with honorees about the details of the ceremony, reception and conference.
- Once the selection is made, a completed honoree information forms and a one page summary of the honoree's contributions to diversity and women's studies will be sent to the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
Selection Criteria:
- Women of color who have worked in the areas of women's studies scholarship and activism, especially as they have served to improve the status and climate for women, particularly women of color.
- particularly women of color.
- Women of color who have consistently demonstrated their ability to rally diverse forces together to advance the agenda of women, particularly that of women of color.
- Women of color who have created positive changes at your institutional level, i.e., curriculum development and infusion, receiving grants, mentoring women.
- Women of color who have demonstrated an understanding of the interplay of family and community and culture in the lives of women of color.
