David Giroux has been appointed as the Director of Public Information at UW-Extension beginning May 1.
According to Interim Chancellor Al Beaver, Giroux will serve as UW-Extension's lead communicator and will work to convey the institution's messages to a diverse set of constituent groups, media and citizens. He will be responsible for developing, leading, and implementing the institution's communication strategies; leading the UW-Extension Communications Team; serving as the primary spokesperson with internal and external audiences; and working with the Chancellor, the UW-Extension Executive Council and others in developing UW-Extension's strategic communications, brand identity and key message points.
"David was selected from a large field of highly qualified individuals," Beaver said in making the announcement. "He brings to the UW-Extension leadership team more than 12 years of experience with successful national and local public relations programs. He has extensive experience with developing and implementing comprehensive communications plans, and he has substantial experience serving as a spokesperson for local and national media."
Giroux has managed media relations activities for Alliant Energy Corp. in Madison since 1998. He previously served in a variety of public relations and management positions with the American Red Cross, at the organization's national headquarters in Washington as well as the Badger Chapter in Madison. Giroux is a graduate of the University of Maine.

Giroux and his wife, Anne, live in Madison with their two daughters.
