Conducting local elections according to state and federal law is a statutory responsibility of county and municipal clerks.
"Fairly and properly administered elections are in the interest of all citizens and ensure fairness and freedom of choice in our system of government," says Mark Lederer, University of Wisconsin-Extension local government specialist.
The Educational Teleconference Network (ETN) series on conducting local elections is a program of the Local Government Center of Cooperative Extension at UW-Madison. The educational teleconference network links speakers and participants across the state. Participants at statewide ETN locations will be able to ask questions and share ideas with the speakers and other listeners simultaneously at all locations.
Sponsors of the series include the State Elections Board, Wisconsin Counties Association, League of Wisconsin Municipalities and the Wisconsin Towns Association.

Aug. 2, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "Training for Election Inspectors."
Aug. 23, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "Fall Elections, Abesentee Ballots and Changes in Election Law."
Oct. 11, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "Appointing Election Officials."
Nov. 29, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "Caucus Procedures for Towns and Villages."
Dec. 6, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "Getting Candidates on the Spring Ballot."
March 21, 2001, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "Recount How-Tos."
April 4, 2001, 4 to 4:50 p.m., "Problems on Election Day."
May 16, 2001, 10:30 to 11:50 a.m., "What Every New Clerk Needs to Know - and Didn't Know to Ask!"
Participants at ETN locations are able to ask questions and share ideas with speakers and other listeners. The cost is $10 for each session.
