The University of Wisconsin-Extension will host an "Extension Showcase" on Saturday, August 19 at The Pyle Center (702 Langdon Street in Madison) from 1 to 5pm. The event will feature a variety of exhibits and interactive demonstrations reflecting the programs and services offered across the state:
- Visitors can experience interactive television, with a hands-on Web TV demonstration. Experts will be on hand to discuss future uses of this exciting technology.
- Cooperative Extension publications and CD-ROMs will be available on parenting, money management, bird feeding, gardening, pest control and other seasonal topics.
- The Pyle Center will offer a sampling of fresh-baked cookies and refreshments, representing the menu available at UW-Extension's three Madison conference centers.
- UW-Learning Innovations will demonstrate an online college course. Interactive computer kiosks will allow visitors to peruse different parts of the course, including full-motion video and audio segments.
- The Small Business Development Center will offer an entrepreneurial aptitude quiz, to help people assess their potential for starting and running a successful small business. Other brochures and free materials will be available.
- Visitors can participate in a live demonstration of The Pyle Center's state-of-the-art video conferencing capabilities.
The Showcase is being held in conjunction with the UW-Madison campus open house. The UW-Extension brings university research, knowledge and resources to all Wisconsin people-wherever they live and work.
