In an effort to strengthen central Wisconsin's presence in the New Economy, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), Portage County Business Council Foundation (PCBCF) and Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) are teaming up to provide additional education and training opportunities for area businesses and their employees. The three entities are dedicating funds, resources and personnel to create a 4,800-square-foot Business Education and Training Center at the Portage County Business Park in Stevens Point.

While sport fishing is a Wisconsin tradition, many families and individuals rely on sport-caught fish as a regular source of protein. But not all fish are safe to eat. Each year the Wisconsin DNR issues a list of fish from lakes and rivers across the state that is contaminated with mercury or PCB's. The 2000 advisory list includes 65 bodies of water where PCB contamination is present, and 375 bodies of water where fish are contaminated with mercury.

University of Wisconsin-Extension agents will be on hand to offer advice and tips on a wealth of gardening topics at Wisconsin Public Television's (WPT) eighth annual Garden Expo Feb. 9 - 11 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Visitors to the show will trade winter's slush and dreariness for lush greenery, floral displays, information on the latest trends in gardening and a 1,200-square-foot custom garden display created by the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association.
