Landscape registry applications available

Want to know ahead of time when the neighbors plan to have their yard sprayed with pesticides? You may want to keep the cat in, or keep the kids in. Although we're buried in snow and ice, it's time to think ahead to next spring when professional lawn and landscape companies will apply pesticides to lawns in your neighborhood. If you would like to be told about those pesticide applications before they take place, now is the time to join the Landscape Pesticide Advance Notice Registry.

The registry, managed by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, is a way for homeowners and renters to be notified in advance of professional pesticide applications made to lawns, trees and shrubs in their neighborhood.

There is no charge to join the registry. The only requirement is to complete an application form listing the addresses on your block or adjoining blocks for which you are interested. If any of these addresses have pesticides professionally applied to their lawns, trees or shrubs, the company will contact you at least 12 hours before the pesticides are used.

To receive an application form, contact:

Landscape Registry Coordinator
Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection
P.O. Box 8911
Madison, WI 53708-8911

You may also call them at 608-224-5296, email them at armweb@datcp.state.wi.us, or download the registry application form from the department website at http://datcp.state.wi.us/static/arm/pesticide/lawn.htm . Return your completed registry application to the department at the above address by February 1, 2001 (postmark date).

You must reregister each year to continue to be notified. Current registry participants should have received renewal letters. Renewals must also be returned by February 1, 2001. For questions on the registry, call Ed Bergman at 608-224-5296.
