WPT to offer programs offering context on Afghans and terrorism

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will air five special programs in October that provide context and analysis of the tragic September 11 events.

Thursday, Oct. 4: 7 p.m. Frontline "Hunting bin Laden"

A look at the accused mastermind of the bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. The program also includes current information on the New York and Washington, D.C. terrorist attacks and possible links to Osama bin Laden.

8 p.m. Frontline "Looking for Answers"

In the wake of September's terrorist attack, Frontline will broadcast a special news report, co-produced with The New York Times, detailing the unfolding events around the deadliest act of terrorism in United States history.

9 p.m. Afghanistan: Captives of the Warlords

As Afghanistan's extremist Taliban regime shocks the world with its acts, Emmy Award-winning journalist Arthur Kent travels the country with a hidden camera. He compares the harsh reality of life for Afghans with scenes from a bitter history of foreign interference and internal treachery.

Friday, Oct. 5:

7 p.m. WeekEnd

WPT's flagship news and public affairs program with a weekly presence produces a special segment on Afghanistan and its Taliban rulers.

Thursday, Oct. 11:

8 p.m. Frontline "Target America"

There has been a long-standing division in the national security apparatus about how to deal with an enemy that has been targeting America and Americans for decades, from the Iranian hostage crisis to killings of Marines in Beirut. This program examines that history and the varied reactions.
