Crack the mysteries of computer technology with new 4-H project

Young people who want to learn more about computers are invited to sign up for a new University of Wisconsin-Extension 4-H project called "Computer Mysteries."

This project will help young computer users figure out what makes their computer tick and how to use it to play games, search the Internet and find help with homework.

Using a combination of interactive CD and Web-based activities, both children and teenagers will find Computer Mysteries challenging and fun, said 4-H youth development computer technology consultant Nancy Eisele. They will learn how to use a variety of software, how to add hardware and how to get information on the Internet. They'll learn to design professional-looking printed materials, animated presentations and interactive Web sites. They also will learn about computer careers and safety on line and in computer "chat rooms."

The introductory project level is designed for beginners with little or no experience using a computer, but will require access to a computer with a CD drive. At the second and third levels, users will need access to the Internet to complete the activities.

A Helper's Guide offers additional background information, tips on Internet safety, and helpful hints for adults working with youth, both individually and in groups."
