A new book chronicling the history of Wisconsin's Cooperative Extension is now available. The book, "The People Came First," was written by historian Jerry Apps, a former Wisconsin County Extension agent and specialist.

If you live in a home built after 1978, you probably assume you don't have to worry much about your children suffering from lead poisoning. However, if you have vinyl miniblinds, you may still need to worry, says University of Wisconsin-Madison/Extension housing specialist, John Merrill.

- Water testing reveals unsafe nitrate levels

MADISON, Wis.-- Unsafe nitrate levels showed up on thirteen percent of 115 well water samples in a screening conducted by University of Wisconsin-Extension at the 2002 Farm Progress Days in Richland County. Nitrate-nitrogen greater than 10 milligrams per liter (mg/L) of water is considered unsafe.
