Piece by piece, hundreds of thousands of consumers are losing control over their personal information. Recent statistics indicate that identity theft is a growing crime nationwide that leaves up to 40,000 or more consumers each year fighting to clear their names and correct their credit reports after thieves steal their identities and establish fraudulent credit accounts in their names.
This national threat affects consumers, government agencies, businesses, students and others. Find out what YOU can do to protect yourself or your organization from being the next victim of identity theft!
WHAT: A free public forum, ¿Identity Theft: The Challenge to Consumers, Business and Government¿
WHEN: Thursday, October 24, 2002 from 10-11:45 a.m.
WHERE: The Fluno Center Auditorium, on the UW-Madison campus
601 University Avenue, Madison, Wis.
In addition to the dramatic testimony of a Dane County identity theft victim, this public forum features officials from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the National Consumers League, the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators and business representatives.
