University of Wisconsin - Extension

MADISON, Wis.¿University of Wisconsin-Extension Chancellor Kevin P. Reilly on Thursday will present 20 awards to individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the UW-Extension and Wisconsin¿s people this past year. Recipients will accept their awards at UW-Extension¿s Annual Awards Banquet at The Lowell Center on the UW-Madison campus.

UW-Extension annually presents two awards, the Wisconsin Idea Award and the Friend of Extension Award, to partners outside the organization.

The prestigious Wisconsin Idea Award is given to those who make outstanding contributions to the quality of life at the local, state, national or international level through their work with UW-Extension. This year¿s award recipient is:

• Robert Cervenka, president of the board, Phillips Plastics, Phillips, for his work with UW-Stout in helping businesses develop people-centered business cultures.

The Friend of Extension Award honors individuals and organizations that have given substantial support to the extension mission at a local, state, national or international level. This year¿s recipients are:

• Richard Best, executive director, West Central Workforce Resource, Menomonie, for providing west central Wisconsin business and residents with workforce development assistance

• Don McKelvey, Wisconsin Association of County Extension Committees, Lancaster, for supporting UW-Extension programs in Grant County and statewide

• Floyd Rose, executive director, Wisconsin Supplier Development Council, Madison, for building relationships between corporations and minority- and women-owned businesses

• The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, for advancing Wisconsin¿s dairy industry

UW-Extension faculty and staff also will be honored at the banquet.

Recipients of the faculty and academic staff Award for Excellence are:

• Hector Cruz, associate professor of education, UW-Stout

• Trisha Day, 4-H Youth Development specialist (retired)

• The IDEAS Portal Web site ( http://www.IDEAS.wisconsin.edu

• Wisconsin Public Radio bureau managers Bill Estes (Milwaukee), Dean Kallenbach (Eau Claire), John Munson (Superior), Gene Purcell (La Crosse), Rick Reyer (Wausau) and Glen Slaats (Green Bay)

Recipients of the Classified Staff Award for Exceptional Service are:

• Lisa Bailey, IS Systems Development Services, UW Learning Innovations

• Judy Ballweg, Family Living and 4-H Youth Development, Cooperative Extension

• Patricia Cady, Human Resources

• Robert Frederickson, director of food service, The Lowell Center

Two longtime faculty members who have provided leadership and innovation in outreach and extension programming will receive the Extension Career Award. They are:

• Tom Parslow, assistant program leader, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Cooperative Extension

• Harv Thompson, professor of theater arts and education, Division of Continuing Studies, UW-Madison.
