Madison - Hard wood floors have long been a premium flooring choice for homes. Hard wood floors usually consist of narrow unfinished tongue and grove boards called strips or wider boards called planks, says John Merrill, UW-Madison/Extension Housing Specialist. Oak is the most common species of wood used, however, wood flooring from a variety of species is available.

- Wisconsin Lakes Convention to focus on 25 years of lake partnerships

GREEN BAY, Wis.-2003, the Year of Water, marks the 25th anniversary of the Wisconsin Lakes Convention. To celebrate, the Rivers Alliance of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Ground Water Association, Wisconsin Wetlands Association and University of Wisconsin-Extension have joined the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership in bringing you this year's event. The convention is one of the largest and most significant of its kind in the nation. Students, business leaders, government officials from lakeshore communities across Wisconsin will gather in Green Bay on April 10-12, to celebrate "Silver Reflections, Golden Projections: 25 Years of Lake Partnerships."

Madison - In recent years a type of heating system dating back thousands of years has been making a come-back, according to John Merrill, University of Wisconsin-Extension housing specialist. This system uses air, electricity or, most often water to heat surfaces, which then radiate heat into the adjacent room. Most of the systems are designed to heat floors. According to the Radiant Panel Association, a trade association for the radiant heating industry, the industry has experienced a 700 percent increase in sales since the early 1990s.
