Wisconsin Geological Survey releases calendar for 2003

MADISON, Wis.-Imagine a peaceful scene: impressively layered sandstone outcrops mirrored in the still water of the Wisconsin River, a wooden canoe resting on the shoreline.

A poster/calendar for 2003, released by the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History, features just such an idyllic scene with the photograph Sugar Bowl, taken in the Wisconsin Dells by well known photographer H.H. Bennett, circa 1890. Text on the poster describes the water cycle and the flow of groundwater. The poster is printed on heavyweight stock, so that the photograph is suitable for framing after the year is over and the calendar is no longer needed.

The 2003 calendar, which measures 21.5 x 32 inches, is seventh in a series, Wisconsin in Geologic Time, and is priced at $5 a copy. It is available from the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, 3817 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin 53705-5100; telephone 608-263.7389. Mail-order customers should add $4 for shipping and handling; Wisconsin residents should also include sales tax (percentage depends on county of residence) to the entire amount of the order. Calendars will be delivered rolled. You may use a special online order form located at http://www.uwex.edu/wgnhs/cal03.htm .

The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, a part of University of Wisconsin-Extension, has the principal assignment among state agencies to survey Wisconsin's geological, mineral, and soil resources and shares the responsibility of surveying water and biological resources. The Survey also sells technical reports and maps about the state's geology. A free list of publications is available upon request
