Wisconsin 4-H'ers compete at engineering, science and leadership event

Four 4-H youth represented Wisconsin at the 53rd National 4-H Engineering, Science and Leadership Event in Lafayette, Ind., Sept. 28-30. They competed in the areas of aerospace, small engines and tractor.

Rachel Sherman from Kenosha County placed third in aerospace while Zachary Beeksma from Bayfield County placed seventh in this event. Rachel and Zachary placed second as a team in aerospace. Matthew Frisinger, from Chippewa County placed third in small engines and Matthew Schumacher, from Fond du Lac County, placed sixth in tractor. These youth were evaluated on their knowledge and skills in their respective events.

They qualified for these events by winning their respective state events Aug. 19 at the Portage County Fairgrounds.

These four youth and two youth from Pennsylvania formed a team that won first place in the Engineering Bowl. This event tests knowledge in mechanical sciences.
