Contact: Mindy James, 608/263.7394, mcjames@wisc.edu

The 2004 poster calendar released by the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History features the sepia-toned photograph High Rock, taken in the Wisconsin Dells by well known photographer H.H. Bennett around 1880.

The scene is idyllic: Two canoes rest along a sandstone-framed beach, a few hardy trees cling bravely to precipitous cliffs, and children sporting bonnets play in the sand under the watchful eyes of two women whose own large hats shield their eyes from the sun. Shot with a large-format camera, the photo shows incredible detail, especially in the layering of the sandstone.

Printed on heavy-weight stock, the photograph is suitable for framing after the year is over and the calendar is no longer needed.

The 2004 calendar, which measures 32 x 23.5 inches, is the eighth in a series, Wisconsin in Geologic Time, and is priced at $5 a copy.
