A Web site, wisconsinstories.org, is a tremendous resource to learn more about an ambitious WWII project undertaken by Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS), in association with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and has been updated with material from a brand-new, upcoming television broadcast.
Wisconsin WWII Stories Part II — Europe — premieres at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 and chronicles 18 Wisconsin veterans — stories from D-Day to victory in Europe. The site archives extended transcripts from the veterans and provides streaming video from the program, which encores on WPT at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. WMVS-TV in Milwaukee premieres — Europe — at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The site also provides tips on preserving war memorabilia and how to complete an oral history project.
Interaction with others is key to the experience. At wisconsinstories.org, anyone can contribute their own recollections of WWII battles or struggles on the home front, as well. Even if a visitor is not contributing, the stories are worth reading for their inspirational value.
WPT is a service of the Educational Communications Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
Wisconsin Public Television is a place to grow through learning on WHA-TV/DT, Madison; WPNE-TV/DT, Green Bay; WHRM-TV/DT, Wausau; WLEF-TV/DT, Park Falls; WHLA-TV/DT, La Crosse; and WHWC-TV/DT, Menomonie-Eau Claire.
