WPT Brings Home Two Midwest Emmy Awards

In an award ceremony held Dec. 1, Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) received recognition for two of its recent local productions — one celebrating the expressiveness of dance, and the other celebrating the beauty of Wisconsin — s northern lakes and woods.

Stephen Lukes won an Emmy for outstanding achievement in lighting for Dances for Television, paired half-hour programs that aired last summer. They featured contemporary dance created specifically for television by Douglas Rosenberg, and included works choreographed and performed by the renowned Li Chiao-Ping.

Chuck France, a WPT videographer, captured the beauty and serenity of northern Wisconsin in Up North. He won an Emmy for outstanding achievement for videography. The program again will air at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, as part of a special daylong presentation of programs about Wisconsin.

— We already know how good these WPT professionals are, — said James Steinbach, director of programming and production. — It's great to have the rest of the world find out thanks to these awards. —

WPT is a service of the Educational Communications Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
