Through a new collaborative effort, the University of Wisconsin will launch an online certificate program in gerontology this fall. The program will help people in several professional fields meet the needs of an aging population.

- Winners Announced for Sixth Annual Governor's Humanities Awards

The Wisconsin Humanities Council (WHC) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for the Humanities have announced the recipients of the sixth annual Governor's Humanities Awards, which will be presented by Governor James Doyle or First Lady Jessica Doyle (invited) at a ceremony with a silent auction reception in Madison at the University of Wisconsin on May 2. Invitations to this free event have already been sent but a limited number are still available to the public by calling the WHC at (608) 262-0706.

Madison - People over the age of 60 are the fastest growing segment of Internet users in the country, according to Mary Brintnall-Peterson, University of Wisconsin-Extension program specialist in aging. Older adults are building their confidence on the web and overcoming stereotypes about their reluctance to use computers.

Tormenting, mimicking and gesturing toward the disabled are actions that are jarringly cruel. For those Wisconsin pupils who are disabled and may be targets, these actions are painfully familiar.
