UW-Extension — s Wisconsin Rural Leadership Program (WRLP) recently was acknowledged by a group of leadership experts from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as one of the nation — s — exemplary community leadership programs. —

WRLP, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, strengthens communities by developing citizens to be visionary leaders, prepared to deal with important social and economic issues.

Thirty-two participants are selected for each two-year session. Participants attend a series of eight, three-day seminars focusing on current issues such as technology, leadership, state government, the environment, global economics, and diversity at various locations in Wisconsin. To further broaden their perspective, participants take part in two weeklong seminars, one in Washington, D.C., and another outside the Midwest, and a two-week international travel experience.

More than 70 percent of participants have entered the political arena, winning election to local, county, and state offices.
