If the glare of the national spotlight on the vise-tight race between John Kerry and George Bush has seemed to overshadow other important electoral contests in the Badger State, citizens can log on to wisconsinvote.org for a one-stop, unbiased and comprehensive source of information on all the candidates, issues and races.
"As part of our commitment to providing election coverage, the dedicated and experienced journalists in our news department, along with our counterparts at Wisconsin Public Television, present the site," said Connie Walker, news director for Wisconsin Public Radio.
Prior to the Nov. 2 balloting, site visitors can find streaming audio and video from past news broadcasts; links to the candidates' Web sites, including third-party candidates and independents; a district-by-district listing of races around the state; guidance on how to register to vote; a calendar of upcoming election coverage and events; news articles from Wisconsin newspapers; and educational material on democracy and elections.
On Election Night, in addition to all the existing features, wisconsinvote.org will stream the election results from across Wisconsin.
"The site is accessible and comprehensive. We hope potential voters will use it to help them in their important decision making in races that will affect the makeup of the State Legislature and Congress, as well as determining the next president of the United States," said Wisconsin Public Television's executive producer for news and public affairs Kathy Bissen.
WPR and WPT are services of the Educational Communications Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
