The National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum in Hayward, Wis., is featured on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) on A Program About Unusual Buildings & Other Roadside Stuff airing at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, with an encore broadcast at 8 p.m. Monday, July 12.
The program, that tours some of America's most interesting and goofy buildings, celebrates places like the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum built in the shape of a giant fish. The highlight of the museum complex is a "Shrine to Anglers," which is a structure one-half city block long and four and one-half stories tall, of concrete, steel and fiberglass, hand-sculpted into the likeness of a leaping fish -- a muskie. Its innards are a museum and its gaping jaw accommodates about 20 persons or more as an observation platform.
The program presents an informative look at wacky architecture that salutes all-American energy and individuality built into some unforgettable structures.
In 2004, WPT celebrates 50 years of service to Wisconsin individuals and families. WHA-TV, Madison, signed on the air on May 3, 1954.
WPT is a service of the Educational Communications Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
