Regents appoint Reilly as Next UW System President

Kevin P. Reilly, chancellor and former provost of the University of Wisconsin-Extension, has been appointed as the sixth president of the University of Wisconsin System.

The UW System Board of Regents approved the appointment on Thursday (July 29), following the recommendation of the Regents’ Selection Committee for the UW System President.

“Kevin Reilly is a strong and capable leader who will move this university forward through promising, yet challenging, times,” said Regent President Toby E. Marcovich.

Reilly has served four years as UW-Extension chancellor and four years as vice chancellor and provost. He previously was associate provost for academic programs and secretary of the university at the State University of New York System. Reilly earned his B.A. at the University of Notre Dame, and his M.A. and Ph.D at the University of Minnesota.

Reilly’s responsibilities as UW-Extension chancellor have included leadership of programs in continuing education, Cooperative Extension, distance education, small business development, as well as the statewide Wisconsin Public Radio and Wisconsin Public Television networks. He will succeed Katharine C. Lyall, who will retire this fall after serving as UW System president for nearly 13 years.

“I’m honored that the board has selected me to lead this great university system, and I am eager to work with everyone in the university community to preserve our excellence and proud University of Wisconsin traditions,” Reilly said.
