WPT Increases Access to World News

Beginning on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6, the popular BBC World News program will move from 11 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. every weekday. This earlier time will make the half-hour international news program more accessible to viewers as well as logically leading into the NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, which airs at 6 p.m. weekdays, and offers mainly national news.

Garry Denny, WPT’s associate director of programming, said, "This is a beneficial change for viewers, especially since international and domestic issues are particularly important in an election year and critical to making an informed voting decision. The time change will give even more viewers access to this important news source."

In 2004, WPT celebrates 50 years of service to Wisconsin individuals and families. WHA-TV, Madison, signed on the air on May 3, 1954.

WPT is a service of the Educational Communication Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.

Wisconsin Public Television is a place to grow through learning on WHA-TV/DT, Madison; WPNE-TV/DT, Green Bay; WHRM-TV/DT, Wausau; WLEF-TV/DT, Park Falls; WHLA-TV/DT, La Crosse; and WHWC-TV/DT, Menomonie-Eau Claire.
