MADISON, Wis., - Phil Corriveau has been named director of Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR). In his new position Corriveau will oversee daily management of the statewide network and its nationally produced programming.
Corriveau will assume the position on Oct. 1. A national search was conducted to fill the director position.
Currrently deputy director of the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB), Corriveau has more than 25 years of senior management experience in public radio. Before coming to the ECB, he was director of KUT and the Longhorn Radio Network in Austin, Texas, and president and general manager of KXPR/KXJZ Inc. in Sacramento, Calif. He also has taught radio and television courses at California State University, Sacramento.
Corriveau began his public radio career with a part-time job at WPR's WHA-AM in Madison more than 30 years ago.
The announcement was made by Byron Knight, director of Broadcasting and Media Innovations for University of Wisconsin-Extension, and Wendy Wink, executive director of the ECB. WPR is a service of the two organizations.
"Phil has a deep passion for public radio and a commitment to providing excellent programming to the people of Wisconsin - to enhancing the treasure that is their investment in Wisconsin Public Radio," Wink said. "His innovations will lead WPR through the changes facing broadcasting over the coming years. He's a great colleague and I'm thrilled he's agreed to work with us in this capacity."
Knight said, "Phil has aspired to and worked toward this position for 25 years. WPR is fortunate to hire an individual who respects and cares for Wisconsin Public Radio and pledges continued success while guiding WPR to a future of new public service."
WPR consists of 27 stations programmed by seven regional studios. The stations carry programming from the two WPR networks -- the Ideas Network or the NPR News & Classical Music Network. This allows WPR to serve local, regional and statewide audiences with the highest quality programming available. For more, see wpr.org
