Web Site Offers Wisconsin Election and Candidate Information

Online news is a burgeoning source of information for the electorate. In this critical season, a comprehensive and unbiased Web site is readily available to assist potential voters in their decision-making in the rapidly approaching Sept. 14 primary.

The news departments of Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) and Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) have teamed to create and maintain wisconsinvote.org.

"There is a crush of information about candidates, issues, polls and interest groups. With wisconsinvote.org, we provide voters with just one destination to learn about the presidential, congressional and state races," said Connie Walker, WPR's news director.

The site offers streaming video and audio; lists candidates, and their biographical sketches and platforms; provides voter registration guidance; and lays out a calendar of key dates.

WPT's executive producer for news and public affairs Kathy Bissen said. "This site is one part of our election-year service. I hope that since it's so accessible and comprehensive, many people will take the time to use it as tool for their own democratic decisions."

WPT is a service of the Educational Communications Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.

Wisconsin Public Television is a place to grow through learning on WHA-TV/DT,

Madison; WPNE-TV/DT, Green Bay; WHRM-TV/DT, Wausau; WLEF-TV/DT, Park Falls; WHLA-TV/DT, La Crosse; and WHWC-TV/DT, Menomonie-Eau Claire.

Wisconsin Public Radio consists of 27 stations programmed by seven regional studios and carrying programming from the two WPR networks - the Ideas Network of the NPR News & Classical Music Network. The WPR Web address is wpr.org.
