MADISON, Wis.—The University of Wisconsin-Extension Local Government Center has announced the programs for the 2005-06 WisLine series, “Current Issues Affecting Local Government Officials.”
“This year’s series is covering some new ground based on input from the local government associations and participating local officials,” said Kate Lawton, a specialist in the Center.
Many past basic training programs will continue to be a part of the series, such as budgeting, the annual town meeting, conducting the annual board of review and the regulation of alcoholic beverage licenses. Other Wisline series by the Local Government Center will focus on parliamentary procedure, open government laws, transportation, elections, and land use planning and zoning.
Issues of current interest to local officials this year will include factors that affect finances and all forms of planning. These include intergovernmental communication and demographics. Other programs will examine rural economic development and the challenges of implementing GASB 34.
If you would like further information and a registration form, please contact your county UW-Extension office.
